The Wordmark
Our wordmarks are the primary means by which we are recognized and should appear on all university communications.
Primary Wordmark
The primary wordmark is composed of three parts:
Shield
Extracted from the University seal, the shield references our academic values and history but is presented in a modern, stylized way. There are 18 leaves to represent our 18 colleges and schools.
Texas
As the flagship institution of The University of Texas System, our school is often referred to as “Texas.” Our treatment of the text in all caps is strong and rooted in tradition yet bold and forward-thinking, like the state of Texas itself. It is locked up with the full University name and shield for further context.
The University of Texas at Austin
Our official full name, The University of Texas at Austin, clearly identifies our institution. GT Sectra, a contemporary serif typeface combining the calligraphy of the broad nib pen with the sharpness of the scalpel knife, is used as the font. It was chosen for its legibility and as a nod to academia.
If any of these three parts are not present, the primary wordmark lockup is incomplete and as such is violating our brand standards.
The shield should not be used as a standalone mark except in very specific circumstances and only with prior approval from University Marketing and Communications.
The horizontal version is the preferred primary wordmark type. To maintain our brand’s integrity, clarity and consistency, the size and clear space around the logo must always be maintained across all forms of communication.
These are only partial guidelines. For complete guidelines regarding Texas logos, read this.
